UNCITRAL’s Working Group II (Dispute Settlement)

CRCICA was represented by Dr. Mohamed Hafez, Counsel & Legal Advisor to the Director, at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Working Group II (Dispute Settlement) at its Seventy-second session. It took place in Vienna on 21–25 September 2020, whereby the draft provisions on “expedited arbitration” was discussed.

The Working Group at its Seventy-second session was composed of all State members of the Commission. The WG successfully discussed Eighteen (18) draft provisions on “expedited arbitration”. A minority of the members of the working group attended physically the sessions, whilst the majority of the members attended the sessions virtually through the UNCITRAL’s platform ‘Interpret. World”. The WG was chaired by Mr. Andrés Jana (Chile) and its rapporteur was Mr. Takashi Takashima (Japan).

The Working Group included representatives from over 7 Intergovernmental organizations and nuberous non-governmental organizations, including the following countries: Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, Croatia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Honduras, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Republic of Korea, Romania, Russian Federation, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United States of America, Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of), Viet Nam and Zimbabwe.
