CRCICA Panel of Mediators

CRCICA’s Panel of Mediators includes experienced accredited mediators with various professional backgrounds, which allow the parties a wide range of freedom for the selection of their mediators or neutrals according to the nature of the dispute. The parties are not obliged to appoint their mediators or neutrals from amongst this Panel. However, the Centre is bound to appoint from amongst this Panel when exercising its role as an appointing authority under the CRCICA Mediation Rules

Standards for Admission to CRCICA Panel of Mediators

Admission to the CRCICA Panel of Mediators (“Panel”) takes place where a candidate requests to be added to the Panel via an email sent to panel@crcica.org having attached the candidate’s CV and other supporting materials as set below.

Registration Requirements

These requirements apply to any person who wants to be registered in CRCICA’s Panel with the purpose of acting as a neutral to assist parties in conflict to reach an amicable resolution of their dispute, regardless of the appellation used by the Parties to denote such process.

The objective of these requirements is to specify conditions for mediators seeking registration and assist in informing participants, prospective participants and others what qualifications and competencies can be expected of mediators.

  • Registration is valid for five years and is subject to renewal according to Guidelines for Renewal in CRCICA’s Panel of Mediators below.
  • These requirements should be read in conjunction with the Mediation Rules as they maybe amended from time to time.
  • The conditions for first time enrollment in CRCICA’s Panel are the following:
    • submit their full curriculum vitae (which includes Name; Nationality; Areas of Expertise; Mediation Style; Languages and level of fluency; Years of Experience (professional and mediation experience); as well as a short bio in an effort to facilitate choice and selection by the Parties, including a recent photograph;
    • provide evidence of mediator training with minimum of 40 hours training with two days assessment showing competence and skills;
    • comply with any legislative and approval requirements that govern mediation in country(ies) where they practice, as they may be revised;
    • Provide evidence of good character which can be demonstrated by any of the following:
      • provide evidence that they are regarded as honest and fair, for example, by seeking references from two members of their community who have known them for more than three years; or
      • show that they can meet the requirements of a police check in the country (ies) where they practice; or

The decision to register mediators in CRCICA’s panel of registered mediators is discretionary. It is a business decision that takes into account the existing number of mediators, the types of cases submitted to CRCICA, diversity, and desired sectors.

Only CRCICA’s registered mediators are entitled to use the expression “CRCICA registered Mediator”. In the event that a CRCICA registered Mediator fails to maintain CRCICA’s requirements for registration, or no longer qualifies as a CRCICA registered Mediator, use of the title CRCICA registered Mediator and use of the CRCICA name and logo will end, and the Mediator’s Profile will no longer be included on the CRCICA Panel.

Loss of any of the above requirements and failure to renew registration can result in a registered mediator removal from CRCICA’s panel.

Guidelines for Renewal in CRCICA’s Panel of Mediators

The registration in the Panel is valid for only five years. Mediators wishing to keep their registration in the Panel must meet the following requirements, as they maybe revised, within five years of registration:

  • Exhibit sufficient practice experience by showing that they haveconducted at least 25 hours of mediation, co-mediation (in total duration) within the two-year cycle; or
  • Have completed at least 20 hours of continuing professional development in every five year cycle that can be made as follows:
    • attendance of educational programs, seminars or workshops on mediation or related skill areas (up to 20 hours);
    • presentations at mediation or ADR seminars or workshops including two hours of preparation time for each hour delivered (up to 16 hours);
    • representing clients in four mediations (up to a maximum of 8 hours);
    • coaching, instructing or mentoring of trainee and/or less experienced mediators (up to 10 hours);
    • role playing for trainee mediators and candidates for mediation assessment or observing mediations (up to 8 hours);
    • mentoring of less experienced mediators and enabling observational opportunities (up to 10 hours).
