36th Session of the UNCITRAL Working Group III, 29 October – 2 November 2018, Vienna

Ms. Rabab Yasseen, Partner at Mentha & Partners, Deputy Judge to the Civil Courts in Geneva and Member of the CRCICA Advisory Committee represented CRCICA in the 36th session of the UNCITRAL Working Group III held in Vienna, from 29 October to 2 November 2018.

General statements made at the outset of the session underlined the importance of improving the global investment environment in a way that encourages fairness and promotes investment policies in line with the pillars of sustainable development. The session was devoted to considering and reaching a decision on whether reforms of the ISDS regime were desirable in light of the following concerns: lack of consistency and predictability of arbitral awards rendered by ISDS tribunals; concerns related to arbitrators, decision-makers and those relating to cost and duration of the cases.

The session was attended by some 50 member States, 40 observer States and 60 observer organizations including CRCICA.
