25th Annual WILLEM C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Austria, March 2018

On 24 – 29 March 2018, CRCICA Director participated in the 25th Annual WILLEM C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot which took place in Vienna.  Dr. Selim attended the official opening and was an arbitrator in the General Rounds of Argument; the hearing of University of Lapland Vs. University of Washington, the other two co-arbitrators were Prof. Dr. Ingeborg Schwenzer; Professor emerita of Private Law at the University of Basel/Switzerland and former Dean of Swiss International Law School, and Ms. Martina Zavodna; Associate at Baker & McKenzie, Prague. The oral hearings were organized by the Association for the Organisation and Promotion of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and the Fifteenth Annual Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Hong Kong). The CRCICA was among the sponsors of this Vis Moot. 

The Prevailing team of the Eric E. Bergsten Award Team Orals was the National Research University "Higher School of Economics"- Moscow; while the Bahir Dar University – Ethiopia won the Michael L. Sher Award for the Spirit of the Willem C. Vis Moot.  The Vis moot is an international moot court competition held annually in Vienna since 1994 attracting more than 300 law schools from all around the world.  It can be called the Olympic Games of International Trade Law as the problem is  always based on an international sales transaction and also involves procedural issues of arbitration.
